  • Insulate the bathroom exhaust pipe in the attic space. We didn't and when the hot air flowed up it and hit the cold pipe in the winter...we got tons of condensation running out of the exhaust fan onto the bathroom floor. You live. You learn.

  • Just curious as to why the tile guy didn't put that water tite material on the durock? It's to water proof it. Also did he chalk the tub to seal it? Also that gap seems a bit narrow for the size tile being used. The old tile had a bigger gap then the new tile. Did he grout the gaps? Hard to see on the video. Hope it works for ya.

  • horror, bright illustration for the phrase "contractors from hell". Thermo isolation with all this mold and all the holes is not changed, no water isolation under tiles which is a guarantee for new mold and rotting wooden walls behind. Absolute horror... • Unfortunately the cement board hasn't been sealed properly. Eventually the tiles will start falling off as the grouting absorbs water and gets through. One way round this problem shower would be to remove the standard grouting ( when it starts to deteriorate) and replace it epoxy grout.

  • A note on the Moen Posi-Temp cartridges, you may be tempted to save approx $10 by eventually getting a DANCO cartridge at Home Depot/Lowes - but - stick with the genuine Moen stuff. DANCO cartridges always seem to leak/drip after about 6 months like clockwork.

      Ruben KelevraRuben KelevraOy oldin
    • @Andrew Camarata nah I meant those black spots in the insulation. This looks suspiciously like mold to me. I mean, all the insulation in the attic is clean in comparison. Btw make sure to get an even more elevation on the duct in the attic, they way you layed it it will collect water since the air is cooled on the way up there's a lot of condensation. Best to add a dip somewhere right behind the fan and make a hole into the duct to get the water drained somewhere :)

      Ruben KelevraRuben KelevraOy oldin
    • Ruben Kelevra dust. But yeah. That’s why I built my castle out of steel and concrete.

  • Everyone blaming the contractors he hired but it looked like he was trying to cut costs left and right. Didn't want to pay for the demo, didn't change anything unless necessary such as tub, insulation, tub drain finishes, GFCI. My guess is he asked for the cheapest install (and quickest 🙄), he's lucky the tile layout wraps the corners and is coped around the tub.

  • 12:40 It looks like you don't have a conditioned attic there and you didn't insolate the vent line so in the cold days warm moist air will be traveling through that pipe and will condensate on the inside and water buildup in your vent line.

    Steve MainSteve MainOy oldin
  • 12:19 that duck tape will hold for about 2 years they you will start venting into the attic and question why you have mold up there. Use proper silver duct tape. The only place you should not use duct tape is ducting!

  • Most building codes require that the venting only goes up and out through the roof. Moisture from the shower will develop in the flex tubing when it's laid across the insulation. But when you are in the country and working on your own place or your parents you can get it done any way possible.

  • Our bathroom like yours has no window. In the vent fan light we installed a 40 watt led bulb and never turn it off. It's good to go into the bathroom in the middle of the night and not have to worry about being able to see. The light lights up the hall way as well.

  • I'm a 100% Andrew fan, and I know that hindsight is 20/20, but I think I would have just rebuilt the stems on those faucets and diverter, and regrouted and resealed the tile. You could even replace the faucet set from behind rather than all this. Man, oh man. That's sad.

  • I have tried venting to a existing vent like you did before. Depending on what way the wind blows the moist air will end up in the attic and make it moldy or frosty in the winter and it can melt and look like a leak on a warm day. The last 10 or so I have installed I use a roof vent with the proper size flange to hook the pipe to.
