Using a skid steer to clean up a pile of tires/garbage, spread gravel, and move a shipping container

  • Andrew; salvage what you can. Haul the rest to a re-cycler. I hate to see waste. In my business, I separated parts that were useable, in some way, and marked what they were, and stored. I used shelved attics, shipping containers, old abandoned dry spaces, etc. for space. Many elemental materials are well recycled other than mixed haphazardly in scrap heaps. One must have imagination and a conservative nature.

    • @Andrew Camarata - Andrew, I wanted to clarify something. My comment sounded snarky, and I didn't mean it that way. I thought it was kind of funny that your customer was using the old tires as sawhorses while building his container cabin. I am older than you and I am an engineer, but I have to tell you that you have been a big inspiration for both me and my wife. We watch (and sometimes re-watch) one or two of your videos every night. After watching your tenacity and cleverness in action, we have taken on larger and more varied projects the last couple of years. While we always were DIY orientated, and have done everything from car repairs to house renovation, your videos encouraged us to purchase more and better tools and equipment. We also are less afraid to take on big projects or repairs, and to keep at it when something doesn't go right the first time. Thanks for everything, and I really mean that.

    • Andrew Camarata - LoL. You did a great job moving that container with the skid steer. My wife loved your lamp touch sensor video. Thanks for the sneak preview on the castle addition. You have a million dollar view in that new 4th floor loft perch.

  • I bought an old junkyard a couple decades ago, took over 5 years and tens of thousands to clean it up. Over 140 vehicles, 5000 tires, and piles and piles of garbage, mainly broken down rv's and such. I started out doing it by hand, and eventually got a big trailer and a loader. I wish I had even 1/10th the equipment you have. Just a 5-7 ton excavator, bobcat, an equipment trailer and a dump truck and I'd have cleaned that place up in a couple months.

  • Don't really know why one would have to pay to get rid of tires. They will be burned as a substitute to natural gas in concrete plants and those metal rims are just scrap metal.

  • Tires can create one of the worst environmental disasters because they are disposed of so frequently and the need to often pay fees to manage them can tempt a shortcut and pocket the money. Tire dumps almost always grow if the are not mitigated.

  • This reminds me of two guys I talked to. One bought a property that had tire dump on a side of the road, He was delivering a trailer load of those tires to a recycling plant and when he came back someone had dumbed more tires there. And it´s free to take tires to recycling plant. The other guy told that He was driving behind someone with a trailer full of garden waste like tree branches and leafs and some garbage bags. They went past recycling plant that was open at the moment and drove 10-20 miles and turned in to a forest road. Guy stopped and called police because the road was in middle of his property. He said they came back with empty trailer before police arrived. He informed license plate to the police. Sadly He didn´t know did police do anything about it.
